Mountain House Ambassador Program

in January of 2021 we started building a custom ambassador program for Mountain House, with the goal of creating an inclusive and diverse group of outdoor adventurers that could help represent the heart of the brand. Our first year we combed through over 1,400 applications to find 30 amazing individuals who’ve helped bring life (and engagement) to the MH social channels, events and much more.

In July of 2022, we planned a retreat for the Mountain House ambassadors and marketing employees to help turn our online friendships into something a bit more real. The 28 of us had a great time mountain biking in the Deschutes National Forest, climbing at Smith Rock, and creating longterm friendships.

Our goal was never to find the most elite, peak-bagging athletes we could find. Even though we do have some of those as well. Our goal is to be representative of the diverse interests we see in the outdoors and make sure everyone has a seat at the Mountain House table.

It’s not all fun and games…

Well, maybe it is. But amongst all the fun we’re having, we understand that we’re here to build community and that starts with trust. We’re up front and transparent about the perks of the program and also the expectations. We’ve created an Ambassador Handbook so that we’re all on the same page. We want to make sure we’re good brand stewards, but also respectful of the time and commitment from our ambassadors.

  • 350+

Pieces of content submitted by our ambassador team.

  • 200,000+

Combined reach/audience among our ambassador team.

  • 5,500+

Messages sent in the ambassador’s private slack channel.

There was one unexpected perk to this project…

We made 30 new best friends!

“When I joined The MH ambassador team, I didn't really know what to expect, and I was intimidated by it. It turns out, I joined a gang of awesome outdoors people/friends who have diverse outdoor interests. It's definitely a highlight of my year, I'm glad I took a leap to try something intimidating and new.”

“One of my favorite things is the diversity in our ambassador team. It just shows that being outdoors is available for everyone and encourages others to promote such positivity in our community.”
